MTC Concrete & EDBK: Innovation in Pavement on Ukraine Highway H 14 (Vossiiatske, 2021)
In 2021, MTC Concrete's products were used during the capital repair of a section of the H‑14 highway (km 153+196 to km 161+204), near the village of Vossiiatske (Mykolaiv region), carried out by the company EDBK.
Pre‑rehabilitation conditions
This 32 km section suffered severe degradation: ruts, cracks, and travel times once exceeding 3 hours — now reduced to just 30 minutes.
MTC Concrete products used
- Air‑entraining admixture H1 (concentrate) ensured enhanced frost resistance.
- Superplasticizer NK5 (modified polycarboxylate) maintained mix quality during machine laying.
Innovative technologies
- Continuously reinforced concrete pavement: first trial in Ukraine using domestic composite reinforcement across three experimental schemes to assess heavy‑traffic performance.
- “Quiet” (washed) concrete: exposes coarse aggregate on the surface, increasing skid resistance and reducing noise — an alternative to brushed textures.

Construction phases & results
- Spring–October 2021: asphalt milling, base layers (screenings, cement‑stabilized gravel–sand mix), upper concrete layer.
- November 2021: final works — sidewalks, safety islands, bus stops, guardrails.
- 2023: operational certificate received and put into service.
Cooperation benefits
- Reliable frost resistance and pavement durability.
- Pilot sections help develop new standards for reinforced and washed concrete pavement.
- Travel time reduction significantly improves traffic flow and community access.

Conclusion
The MTC Concrete–EDBK partnership exemplifies how modern admixtures and groundbreaking pavement tech — composite reinforcement, washed concrete — are revolutionizing Ukraine’s infrastructure, enhancing longevity and driver comfort.
